NFL IS CONSIDERING ELIMINATING THE EXTRA POINT! WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? Gerald T Mitchell, Levi J. Johnson, Benjamin Blocker, Willie Williams,Bart Shanks, Keith A Chisolm, Pastor Johnny Ray Noble, Ph.D., Pastor Kevin Donalson, and Corey Alexander
Earlier this month, Belichick said he thought extra points were boring because of how automatic they’ve become and there’s enough agreement with him that the league will explore dropping extra points this offseason.
That was the word from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who told Rich Eisen of NFL Network that the league is examining proposals for abolishing the extra point for pretty much the reason that Belichick cited. Goodell outlined one of the proposed changes.
“The extra point is almost automatic,” Goodell said. “I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (1,256-for-1,261, to be precise). So it’s a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play. There’s one proposal in particular that I’ve heard about. It’s automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six.”
That would certainly eliminate the boredom of an extra point try without fundamentally changing too much about the decision that coaches already make about when to try for a two-point conversion. There will certainly be some pushback to altering a play that’s always been part of the game, but anything that would speed up the process of getting back to actual football is worth considering.

Corey Alexander Extra points have been the difference in countless games. If removed it would only take away from the game even more if you ask me.
Maurice Freeman Move the extra point back to 30 yards.
Willie Williams Leave the game alone! They've been kicking extra points before I was born. Why eliminate the extra point? That the question to ask the commissioner...
Princess Cooper Mr. Willie Williams....he has indicated he thinks the extra point is boring. There were 1200 extra points in the NFL this season so far....and there have been only five misses. I know you all know I have never played football before....so I am asking the experts. I appreciate the responses. It helps me provide great information on my show.
Willie Williams It's boring, that's his answer? Wow....so what does that do for the kickers, take away their goals of breaking records, eliminating extra points from their stats. Need to ask a kicker how he feels about it.
Willie Williams Sorry for not reading the complete story Princess Cooper
Gerald T Mitchell For me its not so much as the exta point in itself but the personnel required. As a player and fan of the game, I've seen countless games lost after myself, teammates, other great athletes who practice, fight with blood sweat n tears to the end, only to have some guy, who never does any drills, no contact, no meetings, nothing, when everybody in the summer is throwing up, fight fatigue and injuries, you look over, this guy is playing hacky sack, or joking with the ball boy, one second left in the game, here comes the kicker!!!! Ask Fla. ST, Bobby Bowden how he feels, wide right, wide left!!! Sonfor me, I urge people to find athletic punyers and kickers, ask Nick Saban damn kickers!!!! (:
Maurice Freeman The would you go for two each time with your best athletes? No the percentage is very low.
Princess Cooper Lol!! Talk Gerald T Mitchell!!!!
Gerald T Mitchell Can't you just see the emotion I put into that? (: I mean, I don't mean to come off like its not necessary, rules are rules, that's part if the game, but man, I see it so much, there's a school here, St.Augustine, where Leonard Fournette attends, where Tyrann Mathieu went, numerous NFL guys, Avery Johnson, etc... so much talent every year, haven't won a state championship since 1979 but there rowards the end every year, you know why they lose evey year? Can't kick a damn extra point or FG. Have to go for two every time, horrible!!! At least have a real athlete as your punter, you play 11 against 9 with k's and holders. Useless, and they're on schoalarship, maaaan!
Reginald Jenkins Princess Cooper I think it shouldn't be eliminated. If anything make the attempt from a distance farther back. If u gonna eliminate a position and put folks out of work eliminate the QB. U cant touch them anyway and they make the most money on a team easily !! I dont even see why QBs wear pads and helmets at all. It dont make sense how they get treated compared to other positions. The NFL is gonna make too many stupid changes until they completely mess the game up.
Princess Cooper I love you guys....great stuff. Get rid of the QB! Gonna have you elaborate on the show on Friday! Love it...
Princess Cooper Gerald T Mitchell your one on one podcast with me is next Wednesday. I will send an agenda. Please mark your calendar for 5pm. And, then of course you are on for the National Signing Day Show. I appreciate you to the fullest.
Gerald T Mitchell No, I would only recruit and train athletes that are athletically inclined. Again, as a recruiter, they are out there. I have an accomplished Qb, K, P, right now that's unsinged, now of course, its jard to find one that can nail a fifty yard fg in the...See More
Gerald T Mitchell Ok, thanks Princess, TTYS!!
Reginald Jenkins Princess Cooper no problem. They make the most and eat up the salary cap and if u get close to them a flag is already thrown. Please give me a QB from the old days when every QB was a real baller !!
Princess Cooper Now, I agree with you there Gerald T Mitchell. Recruit some skill!
